Post in any forum on the internet it seems like, with any picture, of any type of infection, fungus, or disease, and it's "ich".
It could be a white lymph-like fungus on the fins of the fish... "ich". It could be 1/10 the size and have a weird coat to it on the fish with trouble breathing "ich",
Could be a cloudy eye. Nope. Ich.
The ignorance is fantastic. You know what they say though, ignorance is bliss.
I have experienced lypmh, ich, velvet (oodinium), and other types of disease like pop eye and cloudy eye. Many times ich and velvet can cause other diseases, but people on these forums who don't know, shouldn't just post ignorance and confuse the op. Many people will jump the gun and dose copper or do hypo, remove fish from setup, all for something that may not require anything other than a water change.
Sorry for :deadhorse: I suspect it angers others here too.

I agree 100%. It frustrates me to no end that people who actually have no idea what is going on will treat their fish with all sorts of treatments just because someone on here tells them to. That's why I strongly advocate a "wait and see" approach to any issue (except a clear case of Brooklynella). I think more fish have been killed by well-meaning but ill-informed reefkeepers than by the diseases they supposedly try to cure.

While I agree completely, my frustration isn't with the fact that everyone suggests crypt....it's with the folks that swear up and down they have no room for a quarantine tank!

Major Pet Peeve of mine. I QT the heck out of everything before it goes into my seahorse tanks. You name it, it gets QT. Lots of problems are simply avoided.
Second Pet Peeve, the OP gets mad at you for asking if they QT?

I'm with all of the above. Maybe 15 years ago, Velvet was the big worry at every LFS. Its much deadlier than ich and I'm convinced that a very large number of "ich" cases are really velvet. Its like people who get a little sick and say its the "Flu". Real Flu can be serious, common colds aren't; just an excuse to whine.

Agree on all counts, even I have been guilty of not QTing fish. Lessons learned, unfortunately I was too hard-headed. It worked great for awhile, but when it catches up to you...

I wouldn't wait long with velvet either.
