I'm setting up my 125 and want to know how many an what model koralias I should use. I am open to other brands as well I just don't want to spend $1000 on powerheads.

Will be setup as a reef. Hopefully sps dominated

2 x Koralia 6 will give you the flow you need... 2200 gal flow each

+1. or roughly 4 1400 evos. Just don't use them on a wavemaker.

Yeah if you are going reef be ready to buy vortech or tunze. Might as well do it now because you will do it later.

I used 2 Koralia Evo 550gphs. I bought them because they generally had positive reviews and for the pair of them it was 60 bucks. I wanted good random flow in my tank so I bought a wave maker.

They don't work so well on a wave maker. They make a loud clicking noise every time they power on and they randomly reverse the prop which creates an unwanted scenario where the powerhead is sucking water in where it typically pushes water out.

The issues I had are not new to Koralias, though these issues were suppose to have been fixed in the evo's. Not the case. Had I known I would have got something else.

Also the units are an unwelcomed intrusion into the tank, both power cords and the space they take up.

I'm replacing my two koralias with 1 MP10.

Vortech is out of my price range. Probably will be for a few years unless my career changes.

In that case the koralias offer the best price, though you should check out what you can afford from Tunze.

I use koralia magnums on a wave maker and they work great. if your patient you can find both the powerheads and a redsea wavemaster on the used equipment forum for pretty cheap.

I just checked my "box of random fish crap" and I have a red sea controller that controls up to 4 pumps. So I'm one step ahead there.

I did 4 1400s in my 100 and it did great, timed them with my reefkeeper. Still use korilias today never had any problems. Price is right for what you get.

I used two Koralia EVO 1400s and two Aqueon 1250s on my 125, using my Apex to control them (two on at any one time). Worked well, but I'll be selling them soon as I just purchased two Vortech MP40s.

So 1400's or mag 5's on the wavemaker would be adequate?

not sure if the 1400's handle the wavemaker well, but I know 100% the magnums do. stick with the 5's, maybe get a couple 6's . . . I have 3 5's and an 8 in my 180 and the 8 is a monster, probably too big for my tank.

Thanks for all the input.

Do you have any recommendations on placement? The tank is a 125 6'x18"x22" with corner overflows

Anybody have any experience with the Sicce Voyager line?

They are priced right but I don't have any experience to recommend. I'm gonna try the voy1 out in my nano.

Don't hear much talk about them, maybe for good reason. :lol2:

Hey we have a voyager at work on our 180. It's been in there forever! Great flow. I never really looked into what brand it was because there is very little for info on the unit. Ours is one of the 2,3,or 4 models. It puts out really good flow and gets minimal maintenance. I'll have to look into these a little more

The Koralia EVO 1400s were specifically specifically designed to used on wave makers. I have 4 1400"s running as wave makers on my 90 gallon reef, which are controlled by my RKE.

Within the past year and a half, I had two replaced all front housing covers due to the plastic breaking apart, mostly due to my metal halide lighting, plus I had to replace one main impeller shaft.

I wrote the Koralia Corporation in Sacramento Ca, and they replaced all these parts free on charge. Great customer I would say!

If Koralia beefed up the front plastic housing covers, these power heads would be perfect. Since these pumps turn off and on from a range of 50 to 100 times per day, I expect mechanical failures time to time.
