My friend from HK was able to buy a 5in conspic angel for me at a really good price. It was totally fine according to him when he got it and it was even nipping on the pellets the shop fed it. But when it arrived in my QT last night, there were these weird red blotches throughout only one side of its body.

Im not sure but i suspect it may have been mishandled during transport since the blotches are only on one side? Would physical trauma be a fair assumption or do you think its more bacterial?

I attached some pics so you can take a look. Sorry for the quality though, i just used my iphone camera and its a bit blurry but you can still see the marks and the bumps.

Have you seen anything like it? If so, how do i treat it? Its in my 50g QT tank now. The salinity of the LFS was at 1.017 so i followed it for my tank as well.

Hi, your salinity seems way too high. It should be 1.02-1.025.
Also it's hard to tell from ur pics but red blotches usually mean some kind of infection. How long was it in transit till it got to you?
I would lower the salinity, make sure the water parameters are great and maybe treat with some kind of antibiotic if no improvement within a few days.

Sorry i meant the salinity is 1.017. Forgot to add the zero. Its actually on its way to hyposalinity.

From the LFS to my place took a total of 8hrs only.

Im treating with furan2 right now and hoping for the best. The red blotches are only on one side though.

8hrs isnt bad at all. did the transport container bag look okay?

thats a pretty long mark across the body on the left side of the fish. or is the fish just thin?

The bag was totally fine when i got it. The fish isnt thin actually. Its pretty healthy looking except for the red blotches that form some sort of streak on one side only. The other side is totally fine as you can see from the pictures.

Its like what happens when you scratch yourself on like concrete and the flesh swells up? My friend would have noticed it when he bought it and hes sure it wasnt there when he sent it so he got it within the 8hrs that he was being transported.

The red dots may be caused by high ammonia level in the bag during the transportation or due to bacteria infections. My friend bought a bandit angel this month and the fish had the same symptom just as the conspic you got.

Yeah those red spots probably occured only during transport. Do you have any idea on how he fixed up his bandit angel?

Its really hard to tell from the pic; but I wouldn't rule out HLLE.
