How many AI lights on 40 Breeder?

I wanna do a mixed reef with an option for keeping anything. Would two AI fixtures be enough coverage if they are placed long ways or would three be the best? I plan on having them on the rails and not hanging them. Thanks for any advice.

I have 2 on my 40 breeder. One wasn't enough. I bought their rail system and don't like it, the legs aren't tall enough. Hanging 8 inches gives the best coverage without light spill IMO. Standard optics, all 70's may work better

The rails are not tall enough for what? Coverage? How do you have your lights hanging and are they front to back or side to side of the tank? Tank looks awesome by the way.

Thanks. Yes it looked like 2 columns of light going into the tank. Dark around the edges. Optics are very focused rays of light. you'll see. I bent some emt pipe similiar to the zero edge light tree, put both AI's on one track and ran a steel wire from the ends of the rail. Nothing I'm proud of but I knew I was gonna upgrade soon and whatever I came up with was gonna be short lived. Cable end to cable end so they run the long way with the tank. Tried both ways and it makes a slight difference.

In the case of a 40 breeder would using this same light set-up be enough? The tank is 3 feet long so maybe spacing them out so that any overhang of the light covers the whole tank? What about the 70 optics?
