So I have been wondering this for some time now: Is it wise to prophylactically treat fish in QT even if you don't see any visible signs of illness? I'm just wondering this because I have a carpenter's wrasse in QT and he's been in there for 1 week so far and I don't see any signs of disease yet. He seems healthy, colorful and active. I was planning on keeping him there for 3 weeks. In the meantime, should I treat with prazipro and that's it? Just wondering what your opinions are.

I was wondering the same thing as I'm getting new fish tomorrow to put in QT....probably not gonna treat unless needed, unless someone convinces me otherwise

Yeah exactly why I started this. I used prazipro on my anthias but one still turned out to have internal parasites but garlic helped. The only thing that really scares me is ich. I mean I could be there, but I hope it doesn't show it's ugly face. I'm just not sure to treat it if I don't see it though.

I wanted to vote, but I can't. I treat prophylactically with hyposalinity, 1.009 for 6 weeks, on new fish in QT.

Oh I forgot about hypo!! Thanks for that!

Interesting that it is half don't treat and half do prazi and cupramine. Still undecided!! lol

I would rather risk the health of 1 new healthy fish then blindly toss it in a tank full of mature healthy fish that I've had for years.....

very good point. I see you go for both prazi and cupramine.

Actually it's Prazi and strait up copper sulfate...not cupramine....I've found it to be more effective, and you can use Amquel or Prime with it.

I would be happiest if there were an option combining #1 and #2.

For me, it depends where the fish is coming from.

If it's from a LFS, then it gets treated.

If it's from DD, then observation only. And treat as needed.

Add me to the treat with hypo camp. All fish go through hypo in QT. If I see signs of issues beyond ich, I'd consider other treatment as appropriate.

I cant really vote cause it really depends on the fish to me. Some fish just have that track record that make me treat regardless and others just get prazi. I want an option combining 2 and 4.

I did prazi and watched the fish very good. Had the qt's in my office where I work daily. Treat with cupramine when saw signs of ick.
