I have had the skimmer for about a year now and have nothing but trouble with it. When it was running it didnt do too bad but everytime I had to power it off I played HEKK getting it back going again. I was gone on vacation and the pump basically melted itself together .... needless to say I need a new skimmer and need some suggestions. I dont have a fortune to spend but I would like something RELIABLE. I have been looking at some ASM skimmers and some Reef Octopus Skimmers. What are the suggestions of the masses???

I find Eshopps to be a great skimmer and doesn't explode your wallet ;)
Octopus skimmers are great too.. a little more pricey though..
its funny.. my Red Sea did the same thing about 4? months ago lol

I have had to glue the impeller back together about 3 times before. It worked great when it was first out of the box but went down hill from there........ Where do you get your Eshopps stuff from? I have seen some on Amazon

Ok I have been looking at the PSK 300 (very good price) but I cant find ANY reviews on these skimmers. Obviously "thebkramer" is very happy with his.......what say the rest of you that have experience with these skimmers?

For that price look into their cone skimmer line. These things pull out some nasty junk. Its on sale here.

I had the same issue with a red sea skimmer. When it worked it was great but if the power was interrupted it would not restart. After the company sent me a new one the same thing happened and they sent me another new. This one I returned to the LFS in the box for full credit. I guess he sold it to some one else.

Thanks for the link....I may actually go with that due to some size restrictions I have in my stand. I was going to have to do some modifications for the PSK 300 (not that I mind, modifying the tank is what I live for.....just dont tell my wife. LOL)

The pump that comes with the S-150 is an Aquabee....from what I have seen these are fairly reliable pumps. IDK though???
What kinds of skimmers are you guys running? What do guys like about what you have...what dont you like?
I can only imagine that the "skimmer thread" has all already been discussed before. If any can put me up a link to do some reading on my own I will save us re-hashing out everything. THX

I was debating between the asm and reef octopus when I was buying one. I went with reef octopus and I must say that I love it! Go reef octopus!

I've had my berlin skimmer on a rio 2500 for 5
years. The original pump from red sea lasted 6 month.

How do you get the air/water mixture on the pump? The red sea pump of course had the air inlet and control valve to increase or decrese the air.

Anything deltec?
I think the OP is concerned with price there are some really good deals on some used Deltec but still out of reach for now.

Euroreef RS250 with Gen-X pump....set and forget
$250 shipped to you in KY......it's 2 years old and the only reason I replaced it is because my fish outgrew it and I went with a large Deltec.
I paid $528 to the door for it.
It needs a good bath.

Go with the Reef Octopus over an ASM. ASM's just seem cheap to me. When you look at them side by side and hold each one. As far as performance Reef Octopus's are great for the price.
