I found 2 gorilla crabs in my reef tank. apparently they havent caused any damage so far.
What would you recommend me to do. Get them out of tank? into the sump (which has no light)? how to effectivelly remove them if needed? or just wait and see ?
Thanks everyone

are you sure of the ID ? that it is gorilla and not a good crab ?
if you are 100% sure, get it out ASAP.
you can try the glass method .. put a glass, on a slope, by rock work, put bait in, wait for crab to go in, and then crab cant climb out, so u can get it out ...
or if you see it, go in for a hunt lol
they eat corals, and fish ! so yea get it out, and once you do, BBQ it please :D they have ate too many of my corals, they all have to pay ! LOL [jks]

2 gorilla crabs decimated all my polyps (12 different kinds) and 2 clams before I got them out. They did not fall for the jar trick. Catching them was rather a matter of luck, I turned on the moonlights one night to feed, and there one was. I skewered him with rigid airline tubing. The other found itself in my sump, where I fished it out and smushed it. Gorilla and stone crabs have black tips on their claws, that is the easiest way to identify them. If that's what yours are, I'd get them out asap.

I have a huge crab in my tank and i think it is a gorilla crab also! it has the black claws and some hair and is abot 1.5-2 inch across the body side to side but so far it hasn't done to much damage...(killed 2 damsels that i was going to give away) it doesn't hurt the peppermint shimp or and of my corals or other fish but i have been trying to catch him with the glass trick (twice) and so far he is a smart little bugger only caught hermit crabs lol

Take his rock out and put the rock in a bucket of RO water. He will fly outta there!

yea that wont work for me....he hides under about 200lbs of rock, so i'll keep trying with the glass trick it's bound to work eventually

Yeah.. I had a gorilla in my tank as well a few years back. Some dumbo sold it to me with a acro colony, and claimed it was a Acro-crab. No no no.. get it out ASAP.
