who uses uv sterilizers

i was just curious as to who uses them and do u use them 24/7.

On my fish QT tank I run one 24/7. In fact no fish are in there right now and still have it on :) need to turn it off when I get home.

I used to, and ran it 24/7 for about 5 months. Don't use it anymore. IMO, does more harm than good. My 6 line and mandarins appreciate not having it on :).

On the reef I only run as needed will kill a lot of critters copepods, amphipods,mysis

I love mine....I turn it on a week before getting new fish and leave it on for at least a month after. I have not lost a fish since doing this. I have a 80 watt unit on my 200 gal system. You need a big unit for it to work good.

I love mine! I use it 24/7 on my reef and my pod population is still tremendous! I have nothing negative about the sterlizer beside having to change the bulb every 6 to 8 months for max. Effic.

Uv= no ich.less algae. It has not hurt my pods and I've had it for over a year
