View Full Version : How long before ammonia spike during cycle?

Just curious when I may first see the ammonia spike that signals the start of my cycle. Cycling with live rock rubble and food pellets. Thanks!

Anywhere from 4-7 days would be my guess. Enjoy!

It is not really possible to quantify. Anywhere from 3 days to 4 weeks to never. It all depends upon the rock you placed in the tank. If it was fully cured it may have enough bacteria on it to process all the waste you throw at it and you will not see a cycle at all. It could be loaded with dead organic matter and you could see ammonia in three days. Most likely it will fall somewhere in between. Ten days is good wild guess.
