Just ordered this guy:

I've never seen one for sale, but it's an awesome fish. Think it will do fine in a 300 gallon tank with triggers, angels, wrasses and tangs. Although I am guessing I can say goodbye to the damsels in the tank.

I saw one at an LFS before. It was in a 75g tank and looked cramped. It was around 8-ish inches and always fluttering around. Like a Flame Hawk, but bigger.

Makes me hate borders and that L.A. cant ship to Canada cause of all the issues with shipping animals.. Beautiful fish.. but I got distracted by the 3 spot angler with the beautiful green on him..

But killer Hawkfish man.

Wow what size tank do you need for that monster?

Diver's Den says 360 gallons, but I think my 300 should be fine. Hawkfish don't require as much swimming room as large angels or tangs so I think he'll be fine long term.

I was just getting ready to order him when I saw he was gone.So I came on here to see who bought him.I had already sold my fish so I could get him.I guess I will have to call everyone back and tell them my fish are not for sale anymore.Post some picture when you get him.

I'd make sure your rock is stable....when he perches, watch out for the avalanche. They are BEASTS. I saw one at the LFS. Really cool fish and looked bullet proof.

I used to collect/spear these guys in the idepools in Baja - they are bulletproof (not spearproof!) and do great in captivity, but I would treat it like a grouper not a hawkfish, they can take down stuff almost the same size as them. Oh, and they are delicious :)

He's in. Will take a few pictures in the afternoon. I threw him directly into the DT (I don't quarantine diver's den fish, although I probably should). He's smaller than my other fish, but they all seem to leave him alone. Very cool looking fish and very interesting "swimming" behavior.

I bougth one from a local store in Tampa, I brought him back though, didn't do any research before I bought him. When I found out they grow over 2 feet I chickened out. They are very aggressive eaters. I had him in a 265 for a week and that was enough for me. Very cool looking fish though, good luck with him.

Did you get him from Creative Aquariums? Because that's where I saw the one I was talking about.

Why are they so rare? Did you eat them all ? Lol

He's been in for about 3 days now. Has not eaten anything yet. He does chase damsels occasionally, but will not take frozen food.

Any thoughts?

What's their natural diet? Maybe try some live crabs or shrimp?

Give him some time, some fish won't eat for awhile due to stress. Maybe add some garlic to entice appetite?

Email customer service at Live Aquaria, they can tell you exactly what that fish was eating in their care.

Giant hawkfish is eating EVERYTHING except pellets. It is one of the most aggressive fish in the tank (a tank with triggers, angels, tangs, a wrasse and a grouper) and is beyond aggressive at feeding time. It bullies my lunare wrasse and doesn't take crap from anybody. It can also eat more than any other fish in the tank (and its twice smaller).

I am very happy with it. Something different from all the FOWLR fish I've kept.

That's awesome, glad he's doing well for you. If I ever have a large fowlr again I'd definitely get one.

I'd love to see a video of him eating!!!!

The Divers Dens is so bizarre! $5000 australian perch???

My jaw dropped. I thought snowflake clowns were pricey.
