Tough to see in the picture....just looks like an air bubble though.

If you started with dry rock it's the air out gasing as the water penetrates the rock.

I'm wondering what is causing the air bubbles though, my guess is bacteria?

I used to get this under my rock too. I assumed it was from micro bubbles coming from my sump. Before I put baffle walls in my sump I would get a bunch of air bubbles under my rock and they would occasionally rise to the surface. The bubbles stopped forming, for the most part, when I put the baffle walls in. The odd time I will still see a bubble forming though.

+ 1 on the micro bubbles. running a filter sock helps.

I get them too, assumed it was just accumulation of microbubbles. From time to time I do blow them off with a turkey baster when I'm cleaning up the tank, but that's just for aesthetics... I don't think they hurt anything.

Also can come from bacteria completing the nitrogen cycle and producing nitrogen gas.

Fish flatulence. Add some Bean-O to their food. Seriously, any newly added rock has a lot of trapped air that can take weeks to seep out.
