I got a hold of this huge fake peice of coral.(45lbs) i would like to add it to my saltwater tank.
now with this tank i have about 12 small real corals. will this damage anything i have going for them? will it raise any of my chemicals?
My plan is to have this start to grow coraline alige.

Thanks

Is that really fake? It looks like a SPS skeleton to me.

but will it raise my ph or phosphates or anything? also how do you clean it? soak it with some tap water conditioner?

That is a table top Acro, I would assume it was alive at some point in time, you must have a large tank to hold that monster. It won't hurt anything but it's gonna turn brown before coralline algae takes over, might take years to get it all purple or pink though.

I'm sure that piece was pretty pricey. Why not keep it for decoration around your place?

Without knowing if it is real or manufactured it's difficult to know what will happen.

I'd just throw it in a tub full of RO/DI and test it after a week and see if anything has leached out of it.

Even with that realize you're not testing for everything that could be harmful.

If ya notice anything weird like a chlorine smell or or water becoming very very fouled I personally wouldn't put it in.

If ya don't mind me asking... where did it come from?

Holy crap that's nice. Won't hurt your tank if it's clean. But I agree it may take some time to look nice and covered by coralline.

Oh, forgot to add that I bet that $10 didn't buy it.

well a customer of mine gave it to me. so it was free i used the 10 bucks to show how big it was. ok ill put it in a 30 gal plastic tub and test the water after a few days with a powerhead running

LOL, now isn't that something you should decide?

About 20 years ago, that would be in my tank, along with other shapes and colors. I remember the trend well. Nice piece you have there.

Yea.. why not put it on the outside of your tank.. And grow a real one inside.

Fair enough, I would display it table side up for sure.

As beautiful as that piece is, I would have loved to see it back when it was in its prime. Hamazing!

So, I am the only one here who is sickened to see poached coral? It was live at one time, was taken from a reef and bleached. it's unlikely that it was "found" dead in this good of shape... unfortunate, really.
