I have a 30 hex tank that is 24" tall and 18" across. Currently I have low light corals. Kenyan tree, green toadstool leather, mushrooms, button polyps and a gorgian. I have 54 watts total of power compact bulbs. 4 - 9 watt bulbs and one 18 watt 50/50. They are all doing well but I would like to get into some of the LPS and someday try an easy SPS.

I was thinking of getting a 150 watt metal halide. Would the 14k bulb be the best for a mix of good growth and a good visual look to my fish and coral? I plan to only use the one light. Would it be powerful enough for the Lps coral? The tank is only about half way filled with rock.

Also, how far from the top of the water should I hang it? I was thinking around 2 foot for a few days so the corals can adjust to the higher light. What would be a good permanent height for the best growth?

Thanks, Jake.
