I have two hitch hikers after 2.5 months.
There is a white tube in a small cave with a small jellyfish-like extension.
I have a coral growing out of my live rock. This is fascinating.
My other visitor is cyano.
I left the lights on 24/7 twice for a week when I went away.
The lights have a timer, but the hood was in manual mode while I did last minute cleanup...
I am going to limit lighting and feedings. Things are looking better so far and I am also manually removing some of it.
Time will tell.

QUESTION:
Will cyano growth choke out coral?
It is getting on my zoas and some LPS and I have gently brushed some of it away.
My snails are also covered in the stuff.
Aside from cyano being ugly and lowering the PH are there any other negatives I should be aware of?

Thanks :)

Besides being ugly their aren't any HUGE negatives to it. You obviously don't want it in your tank as it is a nuisance and will quickly drown out the coral from their light source, so I would suggest siphoning it out instead of brushing it off. About 3 days of 0 light should help. No feeding either. After the lights out period you can resume your lighting but at a reduced schedule. Ramp up your photo period slowly until you get back to where you were (not the 24/7 mark LOL). There is tons and tons of threads about cyano and how to rid yourself of this algae, good luck.
