Who's stopped running carbon GAC

I have always been a 24/7 carbon user. This recent setup i have been using ~ 2 cups of rox .08 changing out every 3-4 weeks. From what I gather the Rox.08 is very aggressive, wondering if I should switch, keep or just stop all together. Overall it is realtively cheap, just trying to simplify & less rinsing!:p

I have a mixed reef (SPS dominant) with a few softies and LPS. Never had SPS in past.

Everything is working fine, but hat swapping out the carbon.

Have many of you stopped? Any negative effects?

I use GAC in a DIY reactor about 5 days per month or when I think the system needs it. Even when I use it, I only use about a half a cup and pretty slow water flow.

I also only use it when needed. And again, I don't use a huge amount...1 to 2 cups in a bag slid into the baffles in the sump. I'm sure it could be more effective elsewhere, but it gets the job done.

I use rox 24/7, monthly change , been doing that for years. Don't like to risk organic buildup .

how much are you running for a given volume of water? looks like a very large & mixed setup??

1/3 cup of rox per 50 gallons., roughly 1oz by volume per 20 gallons.For 600gallons that's about a quart by volume changed once per month.

Sounds about what i have been running last few months. I have been adding about 2 cups total for my setup ~ 275 gals net water volume....just a bit less than 1/2 cup per 50g. Been swapping it out every 3-4 months

With gac other than rox I'd use 1/2 cup per 50 gallons instead of 1/3.

i will drop my total usage to about 1.5 cups & swap out 3-4 weeks w/ a WC.

Carbon 24/7 in a reactor, about 1 cup for me.

Rox, 24-7, about 3/4 full BRS cartridge. Change every 10-14 days along with gfo pellets.

I run two tlf 150 reactors, the first with bio-pellets, and the second with GFO. All looks good so far.
