View Full Version : Warning CoralVue Stretches to Void Warranty

Just a heads up to anyone with a Octopus HOB skimmer that CoralVue's interpretation of their pump warranty requires to you disassemble the skimmer every four months and remove the pump for cleaning in a vinegar bath or they will void the warranty should the pump fail within the first year. My pump failed after ten months, and when sent in for service I was told the warranty was voided because I had not cleaned it on schedule per their repair person. To undermine their credibility, they also suggested I had run the pump dry, which is ridiculous on the face of it since the pump on that model sits at the bottom of the water chamber and couldn't possibly run dry.
So, I am left with the belief that they will find or fabricate a reason to void warranty claims using pretty flimsy justifications. I am very disappointed in the way CoralVue handled this pump failure during the first year.

so what you are saying is that you didn't perform any sort of maintenance on the pump and now expect coralvue to foot the bill for a broken pump? i don't think their requirements for users to perform routine preventative maintenance is out of the question. coralline algae and other crud builds up in skimmer pumps and powerheads all of the time. if they aren't removed through a vinegar bath every once in a while, the propeller/impeller can spin unbalanced in the pump housing and cause quite a bit of internal damage.

abrian, I am sorry you feel we cheated you to void warranty. I feel we are well in our right to void a full replacement of your pump in the condition that it came from you in. We even offered a replacement pump at a super discounted price to help you out which I thought was reasonably fair. Again, I am sorry if you feel we cheated you of your warranty and wish you the best.

You are both correct, I should not have made this post in haste and in hindsight wish I had not. I should have known better than to make a post when upset, unfortunately it cannot be edited or deleted.
