A friend of mine has been asking me to set up a led light for my tank. Sounds awesome but lil pricey. He set his up through rapidled.com which sells cree brand of led. My question is....is there a difference in the leds on ebay to what cree sells i mean has anyone ever tested it out?

thanks :)

You don't need to test. Look at the datasheets, the differences are clear. If you can explain your criteria (efficieny, brightness, absolute output, color - which are most important?), and give links to the specific LEDs you are looking at, we can help you evaluate your options.

What are your criteria? What do you care about the most?

You can make a functional fixture out of lots of different LEDs. We can not tell you which LEDs are "good" because we do not know matters most to you. The cost, performance, efficiency, color, etc. of the fixture will vary significantly depending on which you pick so you have to tell us which of those factors you care about.

I just want good leds that performs correctly, have the right calvin temps, good lumens, etc. Im looking for(white 5000k-10000k, and the blues 450-465). I geuss this is what im saying i have no problem paying for the cree leds because they are well known and good leds. But if i can get the same(not literly) leds on ebay for wayy cheaper then why buy the ones from cree. I just want to buy these led set myself up a light fixture that i dont have to worry about, and know i can keep w.e coral i want under it.

If price isnt a issue, then go with crees. I love mine:celeb1:

First thing sound like spectrum. All royal blues have about 450-465 as the spectrum. So you need a second criteria. For most that is price. But there are too ways to look at the price. How much now and how much to run. Lots of LEDs are cheaper than Cree, I don't know of any that are cheaper to run. Most (depends on electric cost and other factors) find that in 3-5 years the Cree have made up the initial cost difference. Most lean toward operating cost and go cree.

No whites, well hear spectrums very same list cool, neutral, or warm other say 6500, 10000, etc. If you can find spectral plots then you can compare them. If not you need to guess/ go by others. But you still have the same issue with cost and since most people don't really know what they need they just guess which leaves cast as the decider here.

Hope this helps.
