Hey MP40W's guys i was wondering how long has your mp40w's lasted you? ie: parts breaking/replacing within X Yrs., how long till whole thing just crapping out, or how long has it been running strong strait out of the box. thanks guys.

I think I have had my longest mp40 for about 3 or so years now maybe longer. I have had a few issues but customer service has always taken care of me and if it was a pump out of warranty still provided great service and fast shipping. IME they will last as long as the owner is willing to maintain them. I now have 5 mp40 and an mp60. Over the period of years I have spent maybe $20 on out of warranty replacement parts and that was over a year ago. Was normal wear and tear to the oldest one.

They are completly rebuildable and have an online store for replacement parts. The worst that could happen is the dry side motor fails. @ $240 its not cheap but even they can be taken apart to change the bearings.

I don't have an MP40 but I do have an MP10. Mine is going on 18 months right now and I have never had a single issue. I clean it maybe once a month. It is still as quiet as day one and working great.

These pumps are much more reliable than people think. When people have multiple issues with these pumps, I start to think user error. There is no way I was one of the "lucky" ones and haven't had any problems.

If you keep fixing them they last forever. Here's a good poll regarding problems over a year period. I have 8 in total, with 3 breaking within the first 6 months. I bought one used and it's run problem free for over 2 years.

The pump and driver are reliable. The wet side is not. The wet side was designed where the propeller shaft does not connect to the cover. Any imbalance in the spin will cause the propeller to wobble and parts to prematurely wear out. The parts seem to either fuse or break. The wet side on the mp10 and mp60 is an improvement and very reliable. I currently use 6 mp40s, a couple of mp10s and an mp60. Only the mp40s break down. The mp60 and mp10s just need occasional cleaning.

I have a Tunze and the motor burned out after about 5-6 years. :thumbdown
Maybe that is OK but these pumps are bloody expensive.

Do you guys think the Vortechs are more repairable? The repair on the Tunze costs only a little less than buying a whole new one.

There's always seem to be something wrong with my wet sideon MP40Wes every 6 months. For about a year of running it, I've replaced a whole wetside assembly and a propellar.

Vortechs are definitely more repairable.

I have had a couple of mine for about 5yrs. The issues (a lot the first 4 years) so far were with the wetsides, the motors get louder with time but if the bearings are replaced they are quite as new.

Are two MP60's too big for a 210 Gallon tank in your guys opinion?

I was planning to run them on the sides of the tank.

Seems two mp40's would be too small and I'd have to add 1 or 2 more to the back wall.

^^^ off topic but its ok; id highly recommend 2 mp60's for your tank (one on each end of the tank) with these in your tank you will be very pleased to see these suckers work
