my hammer coral is on my sand bed but i want to move him up my rockwork. Its difficult to do this because the shape of the skeleton is like an upside down cone. is it okay for me to cut the skeleton the make the base flat? if so how much of the skeleton is it okay to cut?

Shouldn't make much difference. Just don't cut any of the flesh.

You should be able to cut it just fine, but I'd stay a couple of inches from the flesh since it does got a bit deeper into the skeleton than the flesh on the outside.
