i always use an exacto knife and inda just get up under it and peel it up. for the most part it should come off the rock like a band aid.

I have Xenia growing on my overflow kinda covering the holes blocking flow. I removed them with my hands and then used a toothbrush to remove residual Xenia. I did this while performing a water change and had the siphon close by. My tank did not suffer any Ill effects and, so far, Xenia has not grown back from any parts I may have left behind.

A hypodermic needle/syringe filled with kalk past and watch those bastards burn!!! I call it crowd control. Just hit the individual stalk that you want gone. Small amounts of xenia at a time to avoid any toxicity issues and ph issues from the kalk paste.

I would just use some scissors and cut it as close to the rock as you can. It won't be in contact with your frogspawn anymore and you'll have a frag to give away. If the leftovers happen to grow back, just do it again. If you really want to get rid of the xenia completely, you can just smother the remains with some epoxy and be done with it.

It won't contaminate the water but it will definitely grow back, no doubt about it. One way that works for me is to siphon it out, you will probably leave a little piece behind. Or you can use a pair of rock cutters and cut below the xenia. If even a tiny piece is left then cover the spot with a rock so that it doesn't get any light for about 2 weeks. Then you should be fine.

Exacto knife, no contamination, WILL grow back unless complete removal is accomplished (really hard to do unless you can remove rock).
