Hi friends,

How much evaporation typically goes out of the tank daily?

I checked my sump this morning and it went down maybe 1/5th of an inch, it took about a 16oz cup to fill it back to where it was... this is for a 50gallon tank w/ a 15-20g sump.

I ask because I have minor minor dripping from the sump's PVC pipes and just want to make sure what I'm losing is to evap and not to leaks.

TIA guys :)

That amount of evaporation sounds right for your set up. I lose almost 3g a day on my tank.

I have the same setup and I lose 5 gallons a week, give or take. tank is at 78 degrees and the fan turns on at 78.5.

I would think everyones evaporation would be a little different due to ambient temp, tank temp, how much water movement the tank gets. Also, if the the piping is leaking a little bit I believe you may be losing salt as well as water. Depending on the size of the leak it may or may not effect salinity. just a thought

Good to know about the leak/salt thing. I have a little leak in my PVC, guess we better get on fixing that so the loss narrowed down to evap.

your evap will change with the humidity of the room / house... I evap more in the middle of summer and winter as the AC and Heat cause the house humidity to be low. Spring and Fall my evap drops off as the house humidity is higher and less comes out of the tank.

Just FYI
