magnesium mixing Q

hi,

i have been dosing two part ca and alk only and wanted to dose mag. I got lab grade mag sulfate and mag chloride. I mixed 3 cups and 5 cups as directed in randy article . The mixed water is brown. Is that normal ?

Could be some iron contamination. Lab grade can mean a lot of things, in most cases it is fine. Mine mixes cloudy but no brown color. ;)

I don't know, but I'd be very concerned about adding something to my tank that I don't have complete faith in. BTW, the mag I get from BRS is crystal clear.

I looked at the ingredients it says .002% iron

i think its better to be safe than sorry
