90g sps heavy build, would a Skimz SM201 be excessive?

Id say go with the biggest skimmer you can afford. You can always feed heavier. :)

I'd recommend an SRO skimmer. I had an SRO 3000 Internal (http://premiumaquatics.com/aquatic-supplies/CV-SRO-3000INT.html) on a 100 gallon system and kept it dirty enough to pump out some great skimmate.

No tank right now but will be using the SRO 3000 to support my 140 gallon prop tank and another SRO unit to support my larger build as I have a lot of faith in these units. Great price/performance factor in my opinion.

Get an Aqua Euro 250 Classic. I use that and can tell you it works great. Pulls out a lot of gunk from my tank.
