The time has finally come where I am considering axing my Reefkeeper2 in favor of a more functional controller. I have a 180 gal. reef consisting of mainly SPS and would like it to control temp., PH, lights, but most important I would like to be able to link it to my computer wirelessly for phone alerts.

Looking for any help as far as pros and cons for each unit. Thanks much.

My vote goes to the Apex, while both can do what you want the Apex gives you more out of the box. Has ability to control Tunze pumps or act as an LED controller, only one to have a module for Vortech control.

Jim,
I can't help you here....I only have the reef keeper lite with 2 pc4's....but my lights have their own controller and I have a separate controller for the tunzes & calc reactor (ph controller). What's the matter you have some extra money to burn? LOL.
By the way did you ever put that LED fixture to use? I am going to use it for my frag tank. Had it over the main display and 3 of them would have been fine for that tank...only problem is the blue by itself is too blue and the white by itself is too yellow....together they look fine...no control but what do you want for $200....

They make a net module for the reefkeeper, you could always go that route if you didn't want to shell out for a new controller.

The net module may only work with RK Elite and Lite, FWIW.

Apex has Net integrated, while rk lite or elite you need to get the net module seperate. rk restricts how many modules and configurations you can have, while apex gives you endless possibilities. apex cost more, but you get more. For me, I'm using rk lite, controlling my leds with complete dimming with the alc module. temp and ph is controlled with the sl2. But I'm limited to only connecting 4 modules on the lite. If I was to purchase again, I'd go with apex.

Apex, I love it. Really gives you incredible control.

No Frank I do not have money to burn LOL, but I want to be able to check on my tank when I'm not around. The tank is chugging along nicely and really don't want any avoidable setbacks, which is why I bought a generator last month.

I didn't use the light yet either. Maybe a frag tank someday, but I'm crunched for space and don't want to add more electric. Maybe, I can shove some frags in my sump somewhere and use the light that way. I'll have to see.

Thanks for all the input guys. I think after reading these posts and other info I will probably go with the Apex, when and if I change.

Jim,

Like mentioned before the DA NET module will only work with RKL or RKE.
I have the RKL and its pretty good. I just got done setting up the NET module. I can now log and view on web!

Here's a screen shot of the PH log as shown on the webpage, guess what time my lights went on, yup 12:00
