View Full Version : Really... a Penductor will give me 4x more flow?!

I have been reading everywhere that penductors increase flow 3-4x... has anyone ACTUALLY measured this?
I have a Sicce Syncra 3.0 that pump out 700gph... so with a penductor on the end this thing will throw out 2800gph?!
... I want someone with REAL experience to chime in here... not what you have "read", but if you actually HAVE penductors/eductors and measured your flow...

the pump needs to be pressure rated to work properly with the penductors..
and what you have read should be true about how this device works...concentrated stream of water draws in water from around it...your still only flowing the said amount of gallons through the end of the penductor, but the water drawn through it is considerably more...works more or less like a venturi or siphon...
the only way to actually measure the flow would be to have two tanks plumbed together, attach and seal the penductor to the one side of the bulkhead connecting the tanks...fill that tank with a set amount of water...fire up your pump and see how fast the pump essentially siphons out the water into the adjoining tank...i am betting it would be fairly quickly...

they are uses them in comercial sector all the time for mixing fluids in tanks and I'm not refereing to aquariums. It's a proven technology and I've used them for about 5 years and they do increase flow significantly if not 4+ times. As stated the pump pressure will vary the results.
I haven't measured the actual results but also understand they don't return more water from the pump (actually less) but the venturi is no different then an old carburetor
check google for Venturi-Effect for how

Here s the best proof I found:

Wow so i suppose that's all the flow i will need for my 40 breeder...
I like that last example, shows it pretty good although not quantitatively.

i have no idea what the first response is saying, but it works by sucking water into the stream at the nozzle and thereby using the high-pressure stream to suck more water into the flow pattern. but it must be a high-pressure stream which is why the pump has to be able to handle pressure. If the pump cant handle the flow restriction at the nozzle, it will not help.

Well this pump will have no head pressure (same height as the tank) so I think that should help. Hopefully it will be the only flow that i need, here are the specs on the pump;
Sicce Syncra 3.0
714GPH
10 Feet max head
48 watts
Again, it will be on a closed loop with NO head at all.
