44 gallon pentagon

I have finally, and after much deliberation, decided to make my 44 gallon pentagon into a reef. It has a 10 gallon sump and overflow box, about 60 lbs of LR in the display, and 40lbs of sand. The aquarium is 2' tall, and about 22 inches for the long sides. I will be starting it as a FOWLR, and once that is set up, I will be buying a 250 watt 10000k MH fixture and begin to get corals.
Also, I have 5 4 month old red mangroves in the sump.
What will do well? I was hoping for maybe a wolf eel and some colorful fish.

The Wolf Eel is often referred to as a Blenny. However, it is a pseudochromid (Dottyback). Its common names include Carpet Eel Blenny, Eared Eel Blenny, and Green Wolf Eel. Its body is a brownish color with highlights of green.

It requires a 50 gallon or larger aquarium with plenty of hiding places. The aquarium should have a tight-fitting lid to prevent escape. The Wolf Eel may be kept in a reef aquarium, but will eat smaller fish and crustaceans.

Its diet should include meaty foods such as small marine fish, chopped clam, and shrimp in its diet.

If I can't do a wolf eel/blenny, then can I do a small flock of Kaudern's cardinals? Like 4?

I have that same tank set up right now. It is not easy to set up the rock work you loose lot of swimming area. It is also a PITA to set up power heads just cant get them set right. I keep mine low stocked I have a scooter blenny, 2 false perk clowns, and one chalk bass. For lighting I have a 4 bulb T5HO fixture and I am able to keep softies and LPS all over the tank. Over all I like the look of the tank and it does not take up much space. But after having it up for 2 years now I am upgrading to a 150. Good luck and post some pics.

So will the cardinals work? And if I end up with 2 pairs, can I keep them both?

I think the cardinals would work because they dont swim around to much kind of just hover in a group. But to have 4 might be a little to much for the tank. Can it be done i am sure it can but you might want to think of different kinds of fish.

Well, I wanted a "school" fish that is unusual or colorful, so I narrowed it down to cardinals or chromis, and I decided on cardinals because they are threatened. So maybe 1 anthias (for color)and a couple of cardinals?

Have you thought about orange lined cardinals? I believe they school too. Nice bright orange and silver flashes.

Well I considered them, but my LFS can't get them unless I special order them, and they're asking $35 each. I got a couple of chromis yesterday, and later I am adding banggai cardinals.
My LFS gets captive-bred, so that's good.
I can't find my camera, but I'll get pics as soon as I find it.
