I have installed the reactor and am about to fill the chamber with GFO granules, there is a foam disk at both ends of the chamber and one in the middle just floating loose in there. Should i remove the one in the middle? It seems to me that the middle one is there to separate gfo/carbon? Am i correct on this?

I leave mine in to run GFO... still has plenty of room to tumble unless your filling the entire tube. BRS has plenty of videos showing how they run them.

if you are using gfo and carbon the carbon goes in first then the middle disc goes in to hold the carbon in place for water to go through and not tumble and break apart
then you put in the gfo there will always be a unoccupied space allowing the gfo to tumble slightly but not too much too break apart into dust

I take it out, it's just something else to collect detritus and get dirty and need cleaning.
