View Full Version : Skimmer... I'm still trying to figure it out!!

Guys,

What would be the better skimmer on a 120g SPS tank with 7 fish - the XP2000SSS, Warner Marine MF-201 or the ATB Elegance 200 Pro? Also, in all candor, how would these skimmers hold up against a Bubble King 180?

I need to stop thinking and just buy one already!!!

I would go with a octopus 200 extreme with bubble blaster pump! Graet skimmer and half the price of a bubble King! I had a WM and was not happy

xtreme would be the best bang for the buck and has a good pump. The edens on the warners aren't proven yet.

The atb is on par with the BK's using their modded askol pumps and cust service is top notch.

I had a BK160 and it was a work of art. best thing about mine was the simplicity of cleaning the cup since their just secured by weight. Also the center riser in the cup detaches and if you run an external collector, all you have to do is remove the center tube and clean that instead of removing the whole cup.

For the 120 the bk mini 180, atb 840,and the sea side aquatics cs2 would all be great. IMO those three would do better than the ones above. All top of the line. I have had the sro 2000,atb elegance, bk mini 180 and the 201.

The warner Marine listed is totally different the wm's of the old. they are wm version of the skimz line. The old wm line were made by JNS. Now aquamaxx.

Thanks folks, one other question - if I can buy a BK 180gen2 used for $600, should I jump on that or pass for a brand new RO or one of the ones Mojo suggests.

your profile shows you have a ATB small. Is this still true ? what eheim pump are you using. the 1250 or 1260 ? Why are you changing ? the Bk mini 180 would be a step up. from the small. Super nice skimmers.

It's the 1260 - it's been a good skimmer. I have a neighbor who is getting into the hobby, and most likely will sell it to him, hence the interest in something new.
