reminds me of that one guy that posted on youtube that his Peacock Mantis went blind and went albino.

The one looks like he just did it. The other does look cool. But I will say on mione i got him with one eye but he did change color. Kinda cool IMO

That is crazy! I have never heard of an animal doing anything quite like THAT to become albino.

Mine went from some color to what you see. All white but his black eye where it was missing when I got him. I have a soft spot for mantis. Collection is at 11 and trying to see how I can add more.

I want to know how this happens! Where are all the mantis scholars when you need one!

Awesome. Must be cool to have a white mantis, even though he's handicapped.

11 Stomatopods??? Pics??

I am just having a guess at why it changed color (aint nothing solid just opinion based).

Theory is based off Logic (which dosen't mean its rite!)

When animals (inc humans) get sick there bodies react to it, one of these reactions is the natural color of the body (ever noticed when your really sick you go pale) this could be something similar here.

Similar again to the octopus, you can almost tell how your octo feels just by looking at his skin, if its pale your in trouble, if its natural then he is doing find (that is a very broad term and not the only thing to look for, but they are alllll indicators to poor health).

Correct me if I am wrong but I am under the impression that sum (don't know if all can) are capable of changing there bodies color to match there current surroundings, although this wouldn't be as instant as say an octopus/cuttle fish, perhaps through its blindness it is incapable of performing such things now ?

I got no idea really and am jsut stabbing in the dark / guessing

BUT

Logic tells me that animals that go pale tend to be saying "I am sick"

just my 2 cents worth =D

EDIT: To even counter what I just said since I don't want to come off as the "ALL KNOWER OF STOMATOPODS" but to counter what I said above, who is to say that the mantis ISN'T just matching its surroundings even though the surroundings are PALE in color (whites creams etc)...so yeah LOLO

either way its very interesting too see =D 1st time I seen a one eyed mantis :D and I would of probably called him "Old One Eye" LOLOL
