Do you think it would be possible to tee off wher]e the cold water enter
s into the heater?

You can tie into any place where you have a cold water supply. As long as it is the cold supply, you wont have any problems.

agreed, and did. My apartment had 2 places to hook up, laundry area (wife said no) and hot water(green light).. I used fittings and put in a t valve after split at hot water. That way when I move I don't nesc need to uninstall hole splitter if I don't want.

Most membranes are destroyed by hot water. Cold water supply or a mix (not recommended) is the only safe way.

If you have production issues, it's likely caused by RO/DI parts issues or a low PSI. It's much safer to get a booster pump for low PSI (and will yield a much better result) than tapping a hot water supply to increase production.
