Have opportunity to pick up a 120 gallon-4x2x2 tank. Really love that size tank. Is it ok to go with a yellow tang in that tank? I know it's done and with smaller tanks(which I disagree and understand), but knowing they need "running room", what do you think? The extra six inches front to back really is nice. So with my 75 gallon at present,(wanting to get this 120) would this be a benefit to such a tang. Don't want to start a racket but personal experience would be appreciated. Thanks

Sounds good . They like at least 4 ft in length.. Also make sure to have alot of water flow for him

Nice to hear. So 4 foot rule doesn't really apply here? More input appreciated.

This is propably the smallest tank recommened for a yellow tang, I'd like one as well in my 120 but I already have a Blue Tang. I would try to keep an open aquascape with lots of caves and crevases. Create a tank with as much open swimming area as possiable.

The 120 is 4'. The tank sizes for tangs sticky in the reef fishes subforum does recommend at least a 100g tank but also a 5' tank. I think you should be good to go with a yellow tang in the 120. However, I would suggest you not get the yellow tang until you actually have the 120 up and running. I would also suggest not having any other fish shapped like him or any other tangs and adding the yellow tang in last. Also, like said above make sure there is plenty of flow in the tank.

I had a yellow in my 120 for about a year. I had to get rid of him because he would "sprint" the length of the tank far too fast on a constant basis. I could tell he was bored and was having aggression issues due to this. I gave him up to a 350 gallon tank...now he is much more happy.

A lot will say they want a minimum of 6 foot tank but I would go for it in a 120. Pay attention to the stress level of the fish!

I think the yellow tang would be fine in the 120 as well.
