"?????? what is this are we getting trolled by the mods now?? "

Why are you accusing me of trolling

"that video is like 2-3 years old at the least."

I never saw it before so it's new too me.

"of course it's a pistol shrimp, it's in the videos title"

That's the question, the public media isn't always spot on when it comes to aquatic species. I've had mantis shrimp and pistol shrimp for several years. I've never seen that behavior from my pistol shrimp. Granted they get free food when I target feed, but I was just asking if in the wild that is their behavior. Or if the video was a depiction of a mantis credited to a pistol ?

Sorry if I offended anybody by asking an honest question.

The link is broken for me, is it the vid of a pistol killing a skunk cleaner shrimp?

You've had pistol and mantis shrimp for several years and you can't tell the difference? It's like night and day.

There's no need to be rude, people. It's a simple " Yes" or No" question...

Yes, that is indeed a pistol shrimp. Yes, that do that in the wild. That noise, like the video said, is when they snap their claws. The blow temporarily stuns the prey, and then the pistol brings them in to eat. When you hear the popping noises at night, the shrimp has probably found some creature to eat, or maybe it's a warning noise... ( mine makes it at my Nass. Snails when they get too close until they go away. )

lol obvious troll is obvious....

if you're telling me you can't tell the difference between a pistol shrimp and a mantis shrimp, you good sir are blind.

it would be the same as confusing a clownfish for a yellow tang.

I usually prefer to be nice to anyone on the internets… I make sure I do so when it’s a mod.

On topic though, pistol shrimp.
