so im recently new to this amazing hobby and just putting it out there i have a 150 FOWLR, with a 35g refug, lighting not that great lol working on what i want to do, have a skimmer which i have recently taken down due to my tank crashing, the only thing that survived is 2 green chromis, green spotted puffer. i have a RO/DI system with an ATO which i finally fixed. other than that still learning. soon to have a 430g display L shape tank built in my living room.

Your new to the hobby, have a 150g FOWLR tank that has already crashed and you're having a 430g DT built in???? Good luck! Sounds like you are rushing things just a bit!

+1^ i started small for 5 years with 14 bio and just have started a 75G a week ago and im still learnig all kinds of stuff. GOOD LUCK TO YA!!!

I'm curious of what didn't survive through the crash... it does sound like you are in too big of a hurry. I know it's tough to learn to be patient but it is well worth it. It sounds like you had too much in your tank too fast and then one or two things that may have gone wrong spiraled out of control. I'm new to this too... I'm only 1 year in and have a 180G with only 7 small fish in it so far. It was 6 to 8 weeks after I put water in the tank before I put a single fish in there. 4-6 week Quarantine period for each addition. First went my 5 Yellow Tail Damsels, then 4-6 week qt on my next additions etc. all those weeks add up especially when you are ready to add your next fish to QT and cannot find the next fish on your stocking list anywhere for 12 weeks. :( then when you do he makes it several weeks through QT and dies and you have to start the process over. It all adds up. The good news is I have only lost one fish out of my display tank, and it was because I was an idiot and left the lid open and he jumped out on the floor. I have had a few die in QT for one reason or another. When it is all added up I have been VERY active trying to stock my tank at a steady responsible pace and it has taken me 1 year and I still only have seven small fish in there. At this rate my stocking list will take me another two years to complete minimum.

Take your time. It's easier on the wallet that way too.

i would agree that i prolly put to many fish in to fast and having my big tank built is going to be over the next year or so its not something that is going up next week just something im taking my time on and just doing research research research... and i now have a QT tank which i wasnt privy to before hand so that will also be a big help.

What's the topic of this thread? You're now building a monstrous tank with insane maintenance costs? A month or a year of success isn't much in this hobby...get a reasonable size tank to run stable for a couple years and then step up to the 430 if you still think you can afford it. The glass box is the cheapest part of the build. Good luck!

i agree, in this hobby only one thing happens fast that is crash. everything else good happens over time/years. Good Luck

yeah ill post up some pics soon have to figure out how first lol but still not going to discourage me from getting out of the hobby way to much fun
