I have a YWG that I'd like to see if I can get to pair up with a shrimp. From what I've been able to read, they're most likely to pair up with a shrimp from the family Alpheus. But there are several different species, ie tiger, bulls eye, Randalli. Will one species work as well as another? Or do I need to do some more research. I do understand that just because I put a pistol shrimp in there it doesn't mean they're guaranteed to pair up. But it's worth a shot.

I have a tiger pistol paired up with my two YWG's so I know that combination works. Unfortunately, I have no experience about the other pistol shrimp varieties.

tiger pistol is what I have. I hear they are the easiest.
I really wanted to try the bullseye pistol shrimp though.

I picked up a Tiger at the LFS at lunch today. When I dropped him into the tank, he made a bee line for the tunnel the YWG likes to hang out in. I don't think the YWG liked the redecorating the Tiger did (basically removing all of the substrate out of the tunnel) because he spent 1/2 hour or so just wandering around the rest of the tank. Now, several hours later, they're both sitting in the tunnel, happy as clams.

Congrats! I think you'll really enjoy watching them hang out together.

Sounds like success. I have a cleaner shrimp now, can I add a pistol shrimp...or will the cleaner shrimp go after it?

I have no idea on the combining of shrimp.
Do you guys who have shrimp ever see them? I saw mine for a couple of minutes yesterday when I put him in the tank, before he got the tunnel cleaned out enough to get into, but now that he's cleaned it out even more, should I expect to ever see him again?

I keep a cleaner wrasse and YWG and pistol shrimp together with no problems. I don't see my pistol shrimp too often though.
