We're looking to number coral frags for an upcoming club event and I just wondered if anybody knew of a saltwater-safe marker?

Sharpie....but it won't write well on something that is wet. Better to just label the tank with a grease pen or sharpie, and clean it off with a magic eraser.

I've used Uni Paint Markers in the past, though I'm not sure I would recommend them. They seemed not to harm anything, but I was using small quantities in very large systems.
They contain quite a bit of Xylene. Krylon Fusion paint (which most people seem to consider reef-safe after it's dry) does too, but only at ~3% by volume. The Uni paint markers are ~75% by volume.
Numbered plastic cards, wraps around the plugs/discs and stakes are my preferred methods if you have to label coral frags inside the tank.
If you can simplify things to the point you only need a few points of distinction, coloured thread wrapped around the plug/rock is a simple and cheap way to go. One green is $xx.xx and belongs to xxx, one blue and one yellow is $xx.xx and belongs to xxx, etc, etc.
