Anybody ever try this or something similar?
I am considering wrapping the return lines in black duct tape to prevent algea from growing inside....

I've seen it wrapped in pipe insulation to prevent algae growth as well as insulate the piping.

Or you could buy black flex pipe from your LFS or pond supplier..Its fairly cheap less that 2 bucks a foot

How about that flexible stuff normally used to protect bundles of wiring? It's split along its entire length. Just snap it on & if you want to check your line, easy to pull off & reuseable. Come to think of it, that foam pipe insulation stuff for water pipes would work too & with the added benefit of insulating the lines. Replacing with black tubing is a good idea, but if you already have the clear stuff plumbed, might be worth trying the ideas I've put forth.
