automatic control of heater ?

I was considering using all my three aquarium heaters connected to my IKS aquastar (turning off at 96.8 Fahreneit ) to avoid great fluctuations on temperature. Do you think it is safe enough ? (i have one temperature probe working fine, so far...).

What do you recommend ?.

I Use a ranco temp controller.

what I usually do, is set the temp on the heater to be about 82, and then connect them to my controller and set for 80. then if my controller fails, the heaters would go max at 82 ...

+1 to Allmost. Same as I do. Heaters are just too unreliable to trust and you are double protecting yourself this way;)

My major concearn is if the controller switches off (eg. the temp probe mistakenly shows very high temperatures or some problem with controller) and the heaters switch off mistakenly. That would cause very low temperature and no safe option there... (maybe another heater not connected to controller set for 79 F?)

There is a much greater potenical for the heaters to stick in the ON position and cook your tank. Most all livestock will survive low temperatures but not high.

I would also add that another addition to being failsafe is having multiple heaters tied into controller. Simply said, if you need a 300 watt heater for your tank buy two 150s:)

much better to set for 80F and have heaters not turn on and get down to 70F then it is to have it get up to 90F in the tank.

get a aqua logic nema 4x they sell it a marinedepot.it controles the heater and chiller or fan or powerhead.whatever you use to chill.it has a temp probe that shuts off or turns on heater in temp zone you set.it works great you cant make reefchowder with this.i learned the wrong way and never trust a heater anymore.it also has a plug for a chiller if tank gets to hot it turns it on or off.you can run watever you want to it a fan to cool water a extra powerhead or a chiller.it pricy but so is everything in youre tank and also having to start over again.it also keeps water temp fluctuations down wich are very detrimental.
