Hey guys. This is my first tank and its only about 5 months old. Just wanted to show you guys. Most of the corals are frags so you can't really see them in these ft.'s.
My favorite is the toadstool. I also do have a pair of Clarkii's and a starry blenny that are being shy for picture day:lmao:
Hopefully you like it:dance:

Thanks guys! Yeah the aquascape I changed just recently still not happy with the back rock with the frogspawn on it. I would like to make it horizontal with the tank, I used to have a lot more rock in it but I put most of it in my sump.
I will try to get more close up pictures but all I have is a iPhone we will see how good that turns out. haha.

Haha well nit as amazing as some of these nanos on here! I mean those are amazing! Now I just have to wait a year to get there. Thank you I almost lost that guy. I was doing a water change about a month ago and he just instantly closed up and slimed brown stuff but he came back:) He used to be twice as big.

A little bit of the stats.
I have a 20L sump with live rock, DSB and chaeto.
150watt ehiem heater.
rio 1400 return.
es50 overflow box.
A DIY led kit.
Mp10 ES.

About it. I do dose alk every once in awhile. All other levels stay pretty consistent.

I have a question for you guys. What do you think would be a good coral for the top left of the tank? Im thinking torch?

Anything SPS!? Not sure on how much light you have..

I do have a birdsnest. I'm not a huge fan of SPS though. Looking for something that would flow with the flow. I love watching corals move like that.

Torch coral looks great. But be careful, they don't like much flow and that pump looks like its hitting directly that spot where you want to place it.

The mp10 is closer to the front then the back. I will get probably medium flow. Mp10 is only on like 70%ish on reef crest.

Duncan.

I do have a duncan. It just got a new head but its not been opening up fully lately. I think it doesn't like the flow of the mp10 but I've tried moving to two different spots but he still doesn't like it. he looks fine and nothing really bothers him.

Any idea if the left corner is a high flow area? What do you think about a goniopora? Nowadays, they come in a variety of colors and "flow" very well with light to moderate water movement.

2 points of criticism...Paint that return nozzle black with Krylon Fusion and make some sort of black background for the back of the tank. You can buy stuff for it or just use posterboard cut to fit. It will really help the look of the tank. If you take it down for some reason or another, take the time to spray paint the back black. I waited quite a while to paint my tank back and won't make that mistake again. It's too easy and looks too good.

Otherwise, well done. I think you are on your way to a very nice tank. It sure looks good at this point.

I can make it higher flow. Heres a picture. maybe this will clear up where the mp10 is at. I do have some zoas up there right now but I'm going to move them down in front.

I have thought of this. The pvc being white doesn't really bother me. I do wish I did pant the back black but to late now. Doesn't bother me too much now.
Thank you!:fish1:

Curtis, looks like a nice place for a goniopora if your interested.

What kind of things did you have in mind, or do you really like? You mentioned something that "flows" in the tank.. Anything else?

Curtis72

I do like torches. Goniopora is nice as well but I've heard they don't live very long? I don't know. A Bicolor hammer would look cool. Im not really sure. Anything else you have in mind?

I want to start dosing my tank so whats the cheapest most effective way to have it somewhat automated?

iFisch

What are you testing for, currently?

Curtis72
11/10/2011, 04:01 PM
I test for alk and it was at 7. should I test for cal and mag? obviously if I want to dose i should but do I even need to dose in my tank?

Curtis

Great start and fine looking tank! Well done.

You should be testing for the big three, Ca, Alk & Mg. Once in a while NO3 & PO4 as well. Once your corals get more established and start to grow, they will consume more. Depends on how lazy you are and the consumption rate, but a doser is a good way to go. I think Bubble Magus have a fairly cheap doser that everyone seems to like.

I would secure that return so there is no chance of it coming out of the tank and keep a close eye on that overflow. They can be a bit tricky. Glass Holes make a good cheap overflow kit that can be retrofitted (carefully!). Also I think I see a peg up near your overflow. Remember that it may have some metal in it that could leak into your tank. Zip Ties are a good safe way to secure things if need be.

cheers

PS I love my starry blenny, very cool fish! Mine will eat just about anything including me when my hand is in the tank!

If your not testing for it, do not dose it.

Get yourself some quality test kits before you start dosing anything. Salifert, Elos, Hanna Checker, etc.

For all you know, you may not even need to dose (very likely), unless your running a heavily stocked tank and tend to usually do a WC like once every 10-14 days or more.

The bubble magus doser is about 280$ not cheap in my view. haha. Looking for something way cheaper then that. And yes I understand that iFisch thats what i just said in my last post and yeah I need to make a way to the aquarium shop soon and buy those kits.

There was positive comments on RC about these. (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Marine-Magic-aquarium-dosing-pump-Triple-/280766416825?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item415efb87b9#ht_1738wt_1213)

That looks like an interesting doser for the price! I may have to look into one of those.

Yeah I don't know. My lfs got some nice big colonys of these in (15-20 heads). I got this 7 head one for 40$. so not a bad price. I couldn't pass it up. I reaquascaped so i would have a place to put it.

Update. So I was not happy with my overflow box, so I got my tank drilled last friday and had two sides painted for a very good price. So here are the updated pics of the tank.

My leather is not looking the best because my hammer stung it a few days ago but its looking way better in a few days. Also the rock work, I'm not to sure if I like it. I kinda just threw this together because I needed to get stuff back in the tank.

Little update. Nothing really new. Just a pair of normal clowns and fragging coral.
Also dealing with some flatworms. Dont want to use flatworm exit either. so any tips on how to get them out would be appreciated. At this point they dont seem to be hurting anything. i suck some out with a pump every water change.
