What is this critter?

Hey all....I'm a newer member to the forum, but have found reading really helpful. Hopefully some day I'll know enough to answer some other folks' questions.

What is this little guy. I have a small nest of them growing. They're maybe 1mm in diameter (cross section) and 2-4mm tall.

Thanks guys. It's funny how in this day and age of the internet, you can learn about just about anything with a keyword search, but if you want to find out what something is just by what it looks like....well.....you're kinda screwed (unless you post a picture on a message board).
