I agree. I bought the Apogee MQ-200 PAR Quantum meter. Cost me £250. But well worth the money.

Best bet for any cost savings is a used Apogee in the older style.

You can also just get the apogee sensor and read it with multimeter. It's 139.

if you get the apogee sensor can you just drop it in your tank, or do you have to protect it from the water with some kind of housing?

If you get the sensor with the wire on it then it waterproof. The only one that is not waterproof is the one with the sensor embedded on the meter itself.

Old thread but what are you reading with the multi meter? volts? amps? AC or DC?
