Morning guys,

I just got a Marineland 45 Gallon Cube (24x24x19) with a built in "cornerflo" overflow.

In searching on the net, I've found someone with the same tank as me, who's taken pictures of their plumbing.

I'm about to go buy the necessary parts to emulate his setup,

I just wanted to check here for a second opinion just in case the design is flawed or someone picks out something I didnt

thanks in advance

I think the overflow pictured in that aquarium might be utilising a 'full siphon' system minus the spare/emergency standpipe as the standpipe in the picture has a ball valve to restrict the flow, if he wasn't running a full siphon overflow I don't see why he'd have the ball valve on it? If this is indeed the case I wouldn't copy that setup without employing a second standpipe or you're asking for trouble with a flood!

Yeah... I'm actually a bit confused as to why Marineland would setup their sump like this (I know many have criticized it already)

here's the way they recommend it plumbed, as per a marineland sump quick setup guide, made to go with the "cornerflo" reef tanks.

I can't employ a second standpipe without drilling the tank again, obviously....
unless I used this

as my actual sump return, and the built in tank return could be an emergency standpipe.

I just got back from the hardware store, I have all the parts I need to copy this design.

I can obviously leave the ball valve completely open all the time, to eliminate the "full siphon' or just not plumb it in altogether.

What do you guys think?

I can't see how big the actual overflow box/weir is on that tank but if there is room in there to drill & fit another bulkhead then I'd do it and run it full siphon as it's totally silent and can handle insane amounts of flow! That way you won't need to have that unsightly pipe hanging over the side of the tank with salt creep all over it from the return pump. I run my aquarium full siphon and love it.

If you need any anymore advice don't hesitate to ask
