I have been QTing my purple tang for 4 weeks now. ICH showed up within the first few days. I have been treating with cupramine and seems to be working. I am continuing with cupramine.

Lately I have noticed some funny clear spots/markings on the tang. Along the lateral line and pores on the head. Is this just healing from ICH or something else? It did not look like this a couple weeks ago.

Could be HLLE. I've read treating food with Vitamin C helps. Some say HLLE can be linked to use of Carbon, others say no. Bottom line no conclusive evidence either way. Tangs seem to be particularly susceptable. I'm no expert, suggest you do research on treatments but there are many reports of diet-related solutions.

I'm almost sure this is HLLE; it will probably disappear after treatment and time, with pristine water & diet. There have been anecdotal reports linking copper to HLLE; but I've never seen it. But there have been anecdotal reports linking just about everything to HLLE. This isn't really dangerous and i wouldn't stop the ich treatment unless something really goes south. If he's eating well, he should be OK. BTW, I assume this is just the pic and the tang isn't really this color. BTW, what the level of your Cupramine and what kind of test kit are you using?

Normally he is a darker color.

Copper as close to .5 as possible. Using Salifert test kit. Was using API before that but it is really hard to read. I am using Seachem's Cupramine.

It is definitely harder to keep good water in QT. but I have been able to keep perfect water since using Fritz turbo. I really works. I used two bacteria products before that were useless. Fritz is worth the money to get your QT going.

I have been adding garlic sporadically to the water. I just bought some Brightwell vitamins and adding to the water. I have a skimmer on the tank that is finally breaking in after two weeks.

I have not run much carbon because of the copper. I have two aquaclear 50 filters running with foam and biomax.

I have been offering nori, pellet, and flake food. Will also be feeding mysis.

Thanks for your input.

Don't run any copper; it isn't that important and will remove the copper. If you've run ANY copper for any amount of thime and the Cu level hasn't dropped; something is off. Maybe. cheap copper that comes with the AC filter? Because of the HLLE, I'd decrease the Cupramine to .35ppm; its completely effective at that level and easier on the fish. IMO, the vitamins and garlic won't do much in a QT, just add to an already challenged bio-system. They may have some long-term benefit for fish's immune system; but (IMO) fish aren't in QT long enough to benefit. But, its no big deal either way. keep an extra sponge for your AC filters in your DT sump, and they'll instantly cycle a QT any time you need it. I think you got lucky with the Fritz turbo; many of these Miracle-Gro bacteria products work SOME of the time, but I wouldn't trust one when there are easier ways to instantly cycle a QT.Here's all the poop on Cupramine, the FAQ link will give you lots of good info:http://www.seachem.com/Products/product_pages/Cupramine.html
