Hey guys,

In my earlier build thread someone posted that a common upgrade is to use the maxijet 1200 pumps as return pumps for the JBJ tank. I just wanted to make sure I have the right pumps in mind before I order them. Are these the ones I need?

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004IMPOJ8/ref=s9_simh_gw_p199_d0_g199_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=19BBBXRYXJR5NGJ96TTC&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938631&pf_rd_i=507846

Another question, will they sit like the original ones? or are they placed differently in the back of the tank?

Thanks in advance

Some people say they have to extend or shorten the return tube in the back chamber to get the pump to sit on the bottom. Letting it hang works too, but complaints of vibration have been made. Should be able to pop out the old one and pop in the new with no mods.

Can anyone explain what the benefit of this mod is? I thought both pumps were about the same GPH? Obviously if you need replacements its a great option, but why replace them if its not needed? Just curious.

Stock pumps are rated at 266 gph. The Maxijet 1200 is 295 gph. Im not sure if the stock pump is just overrated but you can clearly see the difference once you turn these on.

I bought 1/2 ID tubing and extended the tubes. I used 1 suction cup and it works perfectly. Louder then the stock pumps but worth the extra flow.

Isn't the MJ 1200 actually 1300gph when used as the pump and not a powerhead?
