Polyps and Nitrates

I was browsing around the web when i saw some guy mentioned that colony polyps grow better with nitrates present. is this a fact or total craziness

While most corals do much better in clean water, some zoas (not all) and corals (xenias come to mind) will do better in less than pristine water.
