So I purchased a lemon peel angel for my 55 gallon FOWLR last night. It is beautiful and I love it.

Only problem is I didn't know they were picky eaters. I only heard that about butterflies. I understand they like to graze on live rock, but my live rock is very "clean" - not much macroalgae or other stuff to munch on.

I tried dropping some Spectrum pellets and brine shrimp in.... and he didn't even go near it. I read online that they love to eat macro algae specifically. Well, I had some red algae from a refugium and put a bunch in the tank. He hasn't gone near it.

How do you guys feed Lemonpeels? Will a veggie clip work? If so, what do you put on it? Are there dried macroalgae pellets or flakes that I can buy?

If you got him and put him in the tank last night don't be surprised if he doesn't eat right away. Is he in a quarantine tank now or is he in your 55 with other fish? If he is in the 55 with other fish he may just still be uncomfortable with his new change of scenery and the stresses of being bagged, brought home, acclimated, and put into a foreign environment with other fish. Did you see him eat before you purchased him?

If he is not in a quarantine tank you may want to seriously consider getting one. Well worth the investment. Allows you to provide refuge for your new additions and some time to settle in. Establish a routine with them so they get used to you being around. Also a great place to examine and look out for additions that may bring home diseases and issues you don't want your healthy display tank exposed to. I imagine a 10 gallon QT would be plenty for any fish that would be able to comfortably live in a 55 Gallon.

Give your new fish a day or two to settle in. Vary the food you offer and see if you can find something he likes. I have two flame angels and they are slightly picky about what they eat. they like plain old shrimp from the seafood counter the most strangely but will take more and more foods I offer as time goes by. I feed about 12 different types of food. Variety is the spice of life. :)
