Do you need lights for live rock in your sump? I dont have a fuge but I did put some live rock in there to help get more pods. Is it bad if you dont have lights on them or is it better to not have light?

No light needed for that application

With no lights you can keep rock 'live' (the bacteria will survive), but if you have coraline algae on any LR you put down there, it may die off (especially if your sump is in a closed stand, i.e. dark).

Best to have no light for liverock in a sump. Avoids algae problems, promotes anaerobic bacteria for better nitrate breakdown. The only time to have a light in the sump is if you plant macroalgae and make a refugium.

And, if you have no lights, you can feel totally cool when you tell people about your "cryptic zone." Hehe. Speaking of which, I have a cryptic zone in MY sump. How cool is that?
