Clownfish are very interesting in this manner. Clownfish live in groups of one female and a bunch of males. Only one being sexually active at a time. When the female dies, the biggest male then becomes a female and the line moves up one. Same concept for pairs you buy. One is establishing dominance over the other. The best way to make this an easy transition is when you purchase your clowns buy two very different sizes. Will make it easy to see who's boss.

How did you buy them? Did you just pick up 2 random Clarkiis? Did you buy them from a local reefer that had them as a pair? Etc.

I also just purchased a lobo(open) brain coral and wanted to know some basic care tips, what to feed, and how often?

You're in luck! I also recently got a lobo frag. Apparently don't expect too much growth from it. But I give mine a couple mysis shrimp. Placed right by the mouth a couple times a week. He sticks out tentacles when he's hungry

I have never seen any tentacles on mine why is that?

I only see them very very early in the morning right when I turn the lights on. Just started a few days ago. Only had him for about two weeks. He'll inflate, deflate, and when he opens up his mouth I know its time to feed. The tentacles come from right around the ring of the mantle (dont know the correct term for the edge between the mouth and outer tissue)
