Had my first diving experience in Hawaii a couple weeks ago. Below are some pictures I snapped. Ended up going on two separate trips in Maui and one in Kona. Needless to say, I'm hooked! What an amazing experience! :eek2:

Please note, I am by no means a photographer, just an amateur capturing some memories.

Camera is a Canon S95 with a Canon WP-DC38 Waterproof Housing.

Enjoy!

The s95 does a pretty good job for a pocket size camera! I have one too.

While you were diving in Kona, did you see any of the black phase Long Nose Yellow Butterfly? My understanding is they are unique to the Kona area. I've seen them diving there a number of times.

I, too, love the arch picture... wow.
I would LOVE to dive... could you fill me in a on a few things, if you don't mind?
Did you have to take courses on diving?
Do you know the folks you dove with? Or how did you orchestrate the dive? As much as I love the ocean... I don't think I'd want to do it alone, yet...
How much of a bite is the price on equipment?
Where the fish scared of you much?

Never dive alone.

One needs to be certified, which generally means courses.

There are many dive boats which are happy to take certified divers out for a fee.

Equipment can be rented. However, purchasing a mask which fits your face well is a good idea. Dealing with a perpetually leaky mask is a pain.

Fish are generally leary of large noisy swimming things, though they get used to them.

Yes WOW! Those are awsome pictures! I went to Kona for the first time in September '11, and it was the most incredible experience of my life (well aside from the birth of my daughters, oh and I guess my wedding day, but I think you know what Im getting at). I was only able to do some snorkeling, I cant hold my breath all that long so you can imagine how that went, and I only had one of those disposable underwater cheapy cameras, but I was able to take some photos that I will cherish for the rest of my life. Thanks for sharing your shots, it brought back some great memories.

These are awesome photos. I went to Jamaica last summer and took some photos, but the pics certainly did not look this beautiful. I wasn't nearly prepared and used a disposable underwater camera. Well Done!
