I just picked up a used Biocube 29. I'm already looking at getting an RO/DI unit. BRS has some on sale right now. Should I go with the 4 stage economy model? The price is very good, or should I go with the 5 stage "Plus" model?

Also, what salt should I get? My tank was setup when I bought it and I don't know what issues might arise if I switch to a different kind of salt from what was being used before.

for a bio 29 the 4 stage is a good choice. the salt you choose will depend on what you wish to stock.

It depends on your water departments type of treatment. If they use cloramines or clorine or both? Call water Dept. to find out!

I have the 5 stage spectra-pur and like it a lot. As far as salt, I really don't think you can go wrong using reef crystals.

You probably aren't going to be keeping sps corals in a 29g bio cube... probably. So a 3 stage RO/DI is more than enough. You might look at getting a better one if you think you may 'go bigger' and get into sps corals. Any salt works. Some of the nicest reefs use the cheap, maybe I should say inexpensive, $40/200g Instant Ocean and some of the worst reefs use Tropic Marin Bio Actif which is $200+/200g, and vise versa. Go figure?
