Would two vortech mp40 pumps be enough for a 220 gallon system?

Well Drew, what do you have in the tank? If it’s heavy sps, I’m scratching my head!

I’m not going to say it’s not enough, because this hobby never ceases to amaze me in what people do very successfully with stuff I’d first state can’t work.

I will tell you that I am running two MP40’s (not full open) and two Koralia Evolution 1400’s on a five foot 90 gallon tank.

I think a lot has to do with how you have your rock set up and the location of corals.

Full sps I would say no.

Well its a mix of sps and lps. My rock set up is more towards the back of the tank and the sps are all on top of the rocks. The thing is that I bought a used mp40 off a friend for $300 and don't know if i should resell it for a mp60 or buy another mp40.

I use 2 MP40 on my 120 gal. with mostly SPS.Definitively not enough for my tank.I supplement them with two Tunze 6045 on back wall.

My friend runs a heavily sps dominated 180 with 2 mp40 np ad when I has my 180 I also ran the same setup with a mag 12 return. Was plenty of flow to the point I only had them turned up 3/4 way.

get two mp60's and be done with it :) Also afterwards you will have room to grow if you decide to go bigger. good luck.

I'm spinning 2 mp 40's and 2 mp 20's on my 150g mixed, as well as a tunze 6025 modded to hit behind the rocks.
You could start off w/ 2 mp 40's, maybe add an aimable tunze or koralia to hit dead spots the vorts don't hit, add more vorts down the road if you wish.

I have 2 MP40's on a standard 180, with mostly softies, zoas, LPS, and just some SPS. I've set the pumps on 100% reef-crest and there's probably just enough flow for this setup. If I ever wanted an SPS-dominant tank, I'd have to consider 2 MP60's.

Do you have the tunze running regularly or are the controlled flow?
